It's no surprise that cherry blossom season is the most popular season to visit Washington, D.C. It is absolutely gorgeous. This year was my fourth spring in D.C. and my third visit to the cherry blossoms at the tidal basin. Last year the weather wasn't ideal, so I didn't even bother making the trip.
The best time to visit is in the early morning right at sunrise because if you wait until the afternoon the crowds make it impossible to walk around and actually enjoy the scenery. The sunrise on the day I went this year wasn't the best I've ever seen, but the people watching and the flowers afterwards were well worth the 4:45am wake up! I also happened to spot a few birds building a next in one of the cherry blossom trees and spent a good hour photographing them. A fellow photographer friend helped identify the bird species as a European Starling, for anyone who's interested.
Here are some of my favorites!
